Another post that is a bit late. Whatever. That’s not what this is about. What it is about is what I did last week. Namely, setting myself a goal and achieving it.
You have a story in your head. You have written out your initial ideas but, soon enough, you began to plan the plot further than just the end of this scene. You have ideas for the next scene, and the next, and the one after that.
I need to write this stuff down! you say. And I need to organize it so I can find it later. Sounds like you need an outline, my friend. But just what is and outline? If you put down just one line, is that an outline? Don't worry, you have a couple of options here. Are you an outliner? I am.
I haven't published anything, but I have written several novels. An entire trilogy, in fact, plus the first drafts of two other books in a different series. I got through them all by outlining. Now, maybe you don't know exactly what I mean by outlining. Writing down a few broad ideas about the story I want to write before I actually write it. Yep, that's outlining. But it can be so much more. |
