I have heard it said that the more you have to do the more you get done. I have found this to be true, as well as its opposite.
My primary task at the day job is to answer phones. I do a lot more than just that, but I have to be available to answer the phone as often as possible when I am not on break. Yes, I am a secretary. Though, "administrative assistant" is more preferable. The very best, however, is "the guy who knows everything". I've heard that a couple of times from my superiors and that's just awesome!

My work days are spent pretty much waiting for the phone to ring while doing various other tasks. Some of these other tasks are very big on my daily To Do list. Others, while big and important, are not as prominent for me and are therefore easily overlooked as I am so focused on the ones at the top. That means they go undone because, simply put, I think mostly about the ones at the top and, in needing something to do all day long between phone calls, I stretch them out and don't look down the list to any of the others.
This relates to writing in that I wonder how people writing a handful of short stories, managing submissions, writing a novel, having a day job, a family, friends, a LIFE, are able to do all that they do.
Take my friend Wilson Geiger, for instance. He's got a family, got a LIFE, and still he is writing short stories, submitting them, helping other writers with their work (including yours truly), and still he manages to find the time to keep up his website and to even write stories just for it! And he's good at it all, too! That is damn impressive! Not to mention inspiring.
One of the things I wanted to do in creating a blog/site for myself was to do just what Wilson is doing and post some short stories, perhaps even a serial, just for my friends and visitors. I do have a particular story in mind, one I began several years ago as a serial. It soon grew and I knew a blog would be the perfect place for it. And now that I have a blog, it's probably time that I resurrect that story and begin to share it with all of you just as I had once planned.
For the more I do, the more I will get done.
